SHIELD Organizes First-Ever Local Health Bureau Meeting in Sibutu
ACDI/VOCA’s Sustainable Health Improvements through Empowerment and Local Development (SHIELD) project in the Philippines organized the first meeting for a new local health bureau in Sibutu, Tawi Tawi. Over 100 participants attended including local governmental officials, regional health staff, municipal representatives, department of education officials and others.
The meeting announced the opening of the Sibutu health bureau, and participants were also told about the installation of a new microscopy center with a trained microscopist for malaria examinations. Dr. Yasher Maali spoke about the recent SHIELD immunization activities throughout each municipality.
The meeting also served as an open forum to discuss other health issues and initiatives, including a cleanliness campaign for which local governments committed to employing street cleaners.
