Azerbaijan – Enterprise Development and Training Program (EDTP)
Developing capacity of local supply chain for a private sector client in Azerbaijan
British Petroleum, with its co-venturers in Azerbaijan, awarded ACDI/VOCA a multimillion dollar contract to implement the three-year Enterprise Development and Training Program (EDTP) through its regional development initiative (RDI). Under EDTP, ACDI/VOCA identifies, develops and trains potential local suppliers while acting as a conduit of information between BP and the supplier marketplace.
EDTP’s local consultants help small and medium-sized Azeri companies that have been selected as potential participants in BP tenders meet health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) compliance requirements and develop local supplier processes that meet relevant quality standards. EDTP staff meets with selected local companies’ representatives and works collaboratively with them on action plans that delineate the technical upgrades and staff training needed.
All companies with which EDTP collaborates in the creation and implementation of these action plans must maintain impeccable performance records and meet all of EDTP’s development requirements. This will create opportunities for local companies to work with BP and other companies that hold their suppliers to international standards.
EDTP is currently working with 41 companies at different stages of development. Eight companies are expected to graduate from EDTP’s process by the end of May 2008, opening opportunities to expand their client base.
